Focus: How I’m Fighting To Get Better

Hey Shiners,

It’s been a while (but I take total responsibility for that…

Over the past few weeks, I’ve really been thinking about what direction I want to take ranacampbell.com. For the past 2.5 years, I’ve been building and have amassed a group of loyal and supportive followers.

I’ve made and fostered new relationships and have gotten to interview so many amazing people that have impressed, encouraged, and inspired me to keep on keeping on.

However, there’s one thing that I’ve been STRUGGLING with for a while.

That thing is FOCUS.

I’m a dreamer. I’m an idea-woman. I get turned on by thinking and coming up with new ideas – new possibilities.

That ends up with me starting alot of things and seeing them through to the beginning stages of execution…and then guess what happens?

I’m on to the next new idea.

I know this may sound crazy but SOOO many things interest I sometimes wish (and feel like) I should be trying to dip my spoon in all the pots on the stove. As you all know, doing that is NO GOOD. You end up cross-contaminating perfectly good dishes and wind up with multiple flavors on your taste buds. You lose the essence of the taste of the dish that originally enticed you to the stove.

I think one of the best things that I did was work with a coach. (I’ll write about in detail some other time.) Long story short, I paid for a VIP Day with Safiyah Satterwhite a lifestyle and business coach for coaches. At first, I was thinking, “Rana, what are you doing? Why are you spending money?”

But then I thought about that little birdie that has been following me around for a while. That little birdie said:

Rana, you’ve got to invest in yourself to start seeing some changes.

I went to Safiyah because I know I needed some help on focusing. I know I needed some guidance when it came to having clarity with my vision.

During our time together, we worked on helping me to FOCUS. We came up with a new mission statement, a more clearly defined audience, as well as a defined path to community-building and monetization. (I’m still working on my “relaunch” but I’ll be sure to notify you all first with my big new reveal.)

But most of all that session with her, gave me an extra boost of confidence. As a content creator (and ENFJ), I’m always trying to uplift others but can sometimes be negligent when it comes to my own mental health.

One of the things that I walked away from that call realizing was that if I don’t gain some type of control over my inability to focus, all my dreams I have for myself would be REALLY hard to achieve.

FOCUSING means forcing yourself to make GOALS.

Focusing means forcing yourself to say NO.

It’s alright to think and ideate but I had/have to learn what ideas I will “park in the garage” and which ones I will put in drive. And once I put those dreams in drive – I had to be FOCUSED and dedicated to putting my all into making sure I implemented everything to its full potential.

I run ranacampbell.com – all while balancing my 9-5 job as a marketing coordinator and also just living life. I still live at home with my parents (working on changing that). I just bought a new car, and am starting to feel the pre-stress of taking on this (much-needed) new expense.

Life is taking off for me in so much ways…I guess something that this lack of focus is really showing me is that at the core of all of this I’m a bit nervous for what lies ahead.

Have you ever felt like that?

I really feel like I’m rambling here, I sometimes feel like I don’t get as personal as I want to be. You know what? It feels good to get this off my chest.

I know I’ve been pretty vague about what my “new direction” will be, but it’s for a reason. I’m still fleshing things out and want to make sure I have things right before I invite you all to test and review what I’m working on.

In the meantime, feel free to tell me what you LOVE about the #shiner community and ranacampbell.com and what you think COULD BE BETTER. What type of content could really be useful to you in your life and your journey? Where would you like to see me that I’m not already present?

One more thing, THANK YOU! Thank you for being so kind and staying part of this email community. Thank you all for visiting my site and engaging on social. The positivity and love you show is truly encouraging and has been a motivating force to me when I’m down.

Although my lack of FOCUS has been my downfall, I am fully committed to changing that. I know if I take charge of this area of my life, blessings will be bountiful.
